Sculpted by hand using a special Raku clay. Handpainted using Raku glazes.
The Raku process is incredibly exciting, firing outside, heating up my oil drum kiln, with gas, its loud and smoky.
Once to temperature of a 1000 degrees, the houses are carefully taken out and put into sawdust. They set the sawdust alight, then a process called reduction takes place. whilst still hot, the houses are plunged into cold water with a hiss!
Each crackle or darker area has been created by the Raku process. Each house is a joyous surprise!
